1. About this policy

Simpson Family Care (referred to as "Simpson Family Care", "we", "our" or "us") is committed to protecting the privacy of every person who shares their personal information with us, whether you're enquiring about care for yourself or on behalf of a loved one. This policy explains how we handle personal information collected through our website and in the course of providing our services.

By continuing to use our website, you consent to us dealing with your personal information in the manner set out in this policy. It is governed by New Zealand law and handled in accordance with the Privacy Act 2020 and its thirteen information privacy principles.

2. What information we collect

We collect personal information directly from you, mainly when you make an enquiry through our website, or when you contact us by phone, email or in person. This may include:

  • Your name and the name of the person care is for
  • Your contact details, such as your phone number, email address and general location or suburb
  • Details about your enquiry, including the type of care and support you're asking about
  • Any other information you choose to share with us in your message or conversation

Except for information collected automatically (see section 4), we won't try to collect personal information about you without your knowledge. You're welcome to browse most of our website without telling us who you are. If you choose not to provide information we need, however, we may be unable to respond to your enquiry or provide our services.

3. Information about the people we care for

Because we provide in-home care, we may be trusted with sensitive information about the person receiving care — such as health conditions, mobility needs, daily routines and personal circumstances. We treat this information with particular care, and we handle it only so we can:

  • Understand what care and support is needed
  • Prepare a personalised care plan
  • Match the right carer to your family
  • Keep that carer informed so they can provide safe, appropriate care

If you're arranging care on someone else's behalf, please make sure that person is aware and comfortable with you sharing their information with us before you do so.

4. Information collected automatically

When you visit our website, some technical information is collected automatically, such as your IP address, the type of device and browser you're using, the link you used to find us, and which pages you viewed. We use this information in aggregate form only to understand how the site is being used, and to keep it working well and secure.

We may gather more detail if we have a genuine concern, such as unusual usage patterns or a suspected security issue.

5. Cookies

Our website may use small files called cookies to remember your preferences and help the site function properly. A cookie doesn't give us access to anything else on your device — it only contains the information stored in the cookie itself.

You can set your browser to refuse cookies or delete them at any time, though some parts of the website may not work as smoothly as a result.

6. How we use your information

We use the personal information we collect to:

  • Respond to your enquiry and answer your questions
  • Provide the care services you've asked us for, including preparing care plans
  • Contact you by phone or email about your enquiry or your care
  • Coordinate and support the carers who work with your family
  • Improve our website and the quality of the services we provide
  • Meet our legal and professional obligations

We will never sell or lease your personal information. We don't send marketing material or share your details with third parties for their own marketing purposes.

7. Who we share information with

We keep your information within Simpson Family Care. It may be seen by the owners and the carers directly involved in your care or your enquiry, but only to the extent needed for them to do their job well.

We may also disclose personal information where:

  • you have asked or authorised us to;
  • it is reasonably necessary to protect someone's safety, for example, if we believe a person is at risk of serious harm;
  • it is reasonably necessary to enforce our legal rights, or to protect the rights, property or safety of you, us or others; or
  • we are required or permitted by law to disclose it.

If we ever need to use a trusted service provider (for example, to send email on our behalf), we only share the minimum information required, and those providers may only use it to deliver that service for us.

8. Electronic messages

We only send emails in connection with your enquiry or your care. We don't send newsletters or promotional mailouts. If you'd prefer we didn't email you at all, just let us know at info@simpsonfamilycare.co.nz and we'll stop straight away.

9. Information about other people

Please don't share personal information about another person with us unless they know about it and are happy for you to do so. If you're contacting us about a family member, that's usually all the authorisation we need.

10. Access and correction

You're entitled to ask us for the personal information we hold about you, or to confirm whether we hold any at all. We may ask you to cover our reasonable costs of providing it. If we can't meet your request, we'll tell you why.

It matters to us that the information we hold is accurate and up to date, especially information about someone's care needs. If anything we hold is wrong or has changed, please tell us and we'll correct it. To ask for access or a correction, email info@simpsonfamilycare.co.nz.

11. Storage, security and how long we keep information

We store personal information securely, using reputable providers, and take reasonable safeguards against loss, misuse and unauthorised access, use, modification or disclosure. Access is limited to the people in our team who genuinely need it.

No transmission over the internet can be guaranteed as completely secure, so we can't warrant the security of information sent to us online, but once we have it, we protect it. We keep personal information only for as long as it's needed for the purposes in this policy or as required by law, and then securely destroy or de-identify it.

12. Links to other websites

Our website may contain links to other sites we think are useful. We're not responsible for the privacy practices of those websites, and we encourage you to read their privacy statements before sharing any personal information with them.

13. Questions and complaints

If you have any questions about how we handle personal information, or you'd like to make a complaint, please contact us:

We take every concern seriously and will do our best to resolve it quickly and kindly. If you're not satisfied with our response, you can contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner at www.privacy.org.nz or on 0800 803 909.

14. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time, and any changes take effect as soon as they're published on this page. If the change is significant, we'll let you know directly. By continuing to use our website after changes are published, you agree to the revised policy.
